IDOL's Yawn

It's down to Two Boys and A Girl. I think that's a sitcom on CBS on Monday nights. Let's assume that FOX knows talent better than I do. They claim this years contestants are better than they have ever been. OK, well then why is viewership down by 7%? Where has the magic gone? Why don't people talk about American Idol at work anymore? If the talent is better, then it must be something else.

I reread blogs from previous years and all I could find is that there is no controversy this year. Except this week, David Archuleta's father was kicked out of "backstage". That's what we call the area where people rehearse and wait their turn. It's not really backstage, it just sounds mysterious. My observations for this years boring show are:

* No bizaarre contestents, no Chicken Little or even a Sanjaya.
* The judges seem tired. How many times do we have to hear Simon say "it sounds karoke or like a cruise ship performance"?
* There isn't the same interaction between the regulars. This year Simon and Ryan have stopped joking about each other's sexuality.
* Paula got sober. She has no broken nose, she hasn't stepped on any household pets, and I think she has even stopped sleeping with the contestants. Even though this years boys were hotter than the previous years.

This is the next to the last American Idol. Each contestant gets to sing 3 songs.
The first round songs were selected by the judges. First round results:
1. David Cook doing a great Roberta Flack in "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face". As always David C. put his own originality in this.
2. David Archuleta was very nice in doing Billy Joel's "And So It Goes".
3. Seyesha ( she's good enough now to be known by her first name only, like Cher) wasn't as entertaining as Alicia Keys in "If I Ain't Got You".

The second round should have been the best. It was the contestants choice.
1. Seyesha's "Fever", got all the teenage boys hot and bothered. I'm just not sure they are the ones that vote for Idol.
2. David Cook's version of "Dare You To Live" sounded like it was missing something. But I'd play Truth or Dare with him any day.
3. David Archuleta trying to be a rocker and a grown up doing "With You" just didn't do much for me tonight.

The third and final round was the producers choice. Every year, these so called professionals seem to always screw it up. And this year like past, this was the worst round for all of them.
1. David Cook was entertaining with "I Don't Want to Miss A Thing".
2. David Archuleta made his song "Longer" come true. It seemed to last forever. I think for his sake they should let his dad backstage again.
3. Seyesha did a penguin song, I guess. "Hit Me Up" was more of a turkey song. This one song may have lost the contest for her.

Next week Idol will be over. This has been the most boring year yet, even though both the boys and girls were hotter. And FOX says they have more talent. If it doesn't get better, I'm thinking next week will be my last American Idol blog ever.
OK, maybe we need more than talented eye candy. Bring back the ridiculous. Slip Paula a few drinks or pills. Let's put some fun back in American Idol.

Until Next Week - Wise OUT

Rolling but not Rockin

It was Rock and Roll Hall of Fame night on Idol.

The Hall of Fame is located on the shores of Lake Erie in Cleveland, Ohio. Why Cleveland? Memphis, Cincinnati and New York were all in the running as the home of the Hall of Fame. Cleveland argued that early disc jokey, Allen Freed, coined the term "rock and roll" was from Cleveland. Oh yea, and they were the only city to put up $65 million to build the hall.

Lots of songs, lots of stars, what would the Idols do tonight.
Round 1.
1. David Archuleta doing yet another "Stand By Me" on Idol. Great arrangement, voice and performance.

2. David Cook. I agree with Paula, I have the appetite for his "Hungry Like A Wolf". I'm kind of disappointed that he didn't put his own spin on the song.

3. Seyesha Mercado should have been on Dancing With The Stars with her gyrating around doing "Proud Mary". But she's the only girl left, she has to do what she has to do to get the teenage boy vote.

4. Jason Castro should have realized that you need to be stoned to appreciate Bob Marley. But even the most coked up wouldn't have enjoyed tonight's "I Shot The Sheriff".

This round was very boring. I saw nothing that made me want to stay and watch the next round. But I owe it to you to stick with it.

Round 2.
1. Seyesha Mercado showed a "Change is Gonna Come", right on American Idol. This was her best performance of the year. I think the judges are being cheer leaders for David Archuleta.

2. David Cook showed his originality again by doing the Who's "Baba O'Riley". Great song.

3. David Archuleta's was embarrassingly overwrought as he oversang "Love Me Tender". He got the words and the notes right, but it was a little much.

4. Jason Castro needed a very strong performance in this round. "Mr. Tamborine Man" should have been that song. Unfortunately you need to remember the words. I for one will miss his eyes and his dreads. Goodbye Jason.

With literally thousands of great rock songs, I was totally disappointed in tonights show. I even heard that Cleveland is thinking about contacting Cincinnati and try to give the Hall of Fame away. It will probably take some money to make that happen.
