Two Mints In One

There's a thought that two is better than one. We are at the point in the American Idol contest where each performer gets two numbers to call for voting. Not sure why they do that, but it must be better. In a couple weeks, they will make us listen to each contestent sing two songs. Something to look forward to!

Obviously two was a good number for Sanjaya, he lost last Thursday, and in less than a week, he appeared on both Letterman and Leno. So who really won the Idol contest?

And of course two can be better than one, if we think back to Haley's twins. But that's more explored on another blog. I don't think you can access that one at work.

OK did two numbers bring any luck to the final 6? Tonight's theme "Songs that inspire" because of the IDOL Gives Back charity thing. This was way cool and I hope you voted.

Chris started the night with "Change The World". I think we should have changed the channel instead. The judges claimed to like it but I think Randy and Simon did change the channel and really weren't listening and Paula, well Paula just wants to "do" Chris. This was AWFUL!

Melinda did "There Will Come A Day". Her day is just a few weeks away when she is crowned American Idol 2007. As usual it was classy and this is the song that should have started the show.

Blake doing John Lennon. "Imagine" is one of the most beautiful songs ever written. Blake kept it simple and beautiful. That's why we love Blake, simple and beautiful. He doesn't have to talk, just sing and look good.

After last week's country disaster by Lakisha, she came on strong with "I Believe". The judges didn't like her doing a Fantasia song. Well I have one thing to say to those judges, Lakisha will be way more sucessful than Fantasia.

Phil wanted to continue his winning ways with "The Change". After a strong showing last week, he put himself back where he belongs right on the bottom. He said he misses his kids, (isn't that sweet??), well guess what? he will be back home on Friday. Welcome home daddy.

Jordin just keeps getting better. Her "You'll Never Walk Alone" was simply amazing. She knocked Melinda down to number 2.

Tonights show just proves what we said way back in the beginning. There should be only one boy in the finals. The girls are set, now we just need to suffer thru watching Chris and Phil perform for a couple more weeks.

My favorites tonight, Their name and the place I predicted in the first week:
1. Jordin - 4
2. Melinda - 1
3. Blake - 6
4. Lakisha - 2
5. Chris - 10
6. Phil - 9
Sanjaya - 12 voted week 6
Haley - 8 voted off week 5
Gina - 5 voted off week 4
Chris Sligh - 7 voted off week 3
Stephanie - 3 voted off week 2
Brandon - 11 voted off week 1

This twin talk has me all worked up, after all every guy dreams of doing twins, think I'll go to that blog that we can't get to from work.

Until Next Week - Wise OUT.

Brokeback Mountain and Cowboys

A couple years ago Brokeback Mountain broke Hollywood taboos by showing two cowboys in love. Some people were appalled, while others were cheering. Well country and western night on American Idol has the ability to bring out the same responses. I personally am appalled at the whole idea of this years crop of finalist singing country western. But others are excited.
As I pointed out earlier in the year, the powers that run the Country Western music scene won't even accept the Dixie Chicks. That alone should be reason for everyone to boycott the CW scene. They actually call it CW now. Some marketing guy is trying to broaden the scope. CW American Idol Carrie Underwood this week won the best CW video with her "Before He Cheats" Congratulations to Carrie, but I don't know what she's planning on doing before he cheats.

Let's now review the performances of the cowboys and cowgirls. This would have been the night that Haley excelled. Flashing legs and boobs, it doesn't get more CW than that. But maybe there were too many "Brokeback" cowboys voting last week.

Billy Bob Phil doing "Where the Blacktop Ends" was his best ever this year. It's as if he was asleep until now. This might save him this week.

Billie Bobby Jordin's "A Broken Wing" showed her poise and maturity.

Billy Bob Sanjaya, bet there's not a lot of these in Arkansas. He did "Something To Talk About", come on, like Sanjaya needs something to talk about. Last week Senator Clinton was in New Hampshire on a radio call in show. Someone called in and asked what could be done to get Sanjaya off American Idol? You get a chance to talk to someone who might end up being the next President of the United States and you don't ask, what can we do about Iraq? how do we balance the budget? How did we get in such a mess in just over 6 years? No you ask about American Idol. Folks that's why the people in Washington feel like they can do anything they want. BECAUSE WE DON'T CARE!!! American Idol is more important than anything else in our lives. Let me step back off the soap box. Sanjaya has never been so bad, this was just terrible.

Billie Bobby Lakisha tried "Jesus Take the Wheel". She should have had Jesus sing the song. This was her first bad night. You know how I feel about her, but this was just horrible. Hopefully she has enough voters from her past weeks to keep her going.

Billy Bob Chris sang "Mayberry". Of course being no fan of country I was thinking about Andy and Opie and Barney. I think Gomer should show up and take him back home.

Billie Bobby Melinda lit up the night with "Trouble Is A Woman". All of a sudden I'm a country music fan. WOW Melinda, you are the reason we keep watching.

Billy Bob Blake tried "When the Stars Go Blue". Not my favorite of the night, but he does have style.

My favorites tonight, Their name and the place I predicted in the first week:
1. Melinda - 1
2. Jordin - 4
3. Phil - 9
4. Blake - 6
5. Lakisha - 2
6. Chris - 10
7. Sanjaya - 12

Haley - 8 voted off week 5
Gina - 5 voted off week 4
Chris Sligh - 7 voted off week 3
Stephanie - 3 voted off week 2
Brandon - 11 voted off week 1

I guess I'll go set up my pup tent and find me a couple of cowboys...

It Ain't Fair

You American Idol virgins out there (your first year) are probably ready to quit the show. I feel your pain. In the first 4 weeks, 2 of the better perfomers have been sent home, while there's at least 3 others that should have been sent packing before them.

At the beginning of the year I tried to warn you that you would be disappointed and shocked.
To this I say, American Idol is a like a drug and if you can quit, for gods sake turn off the TV right now and don't go back. Put a picture of the guy who should be gone, and we all know who he is, near your remote so you won't be tempted. I'd mention his name, but he's getting way too much press already.

For those too weak to quit and those of us that are totally brain dead from the years of watching this crap here's this week's recap:

Melinda: Ok last week I said hopefully she would be gone and voted her number one. Two of our new blogettes immediately wrote to me to point out the errors of my writings. I should have explained to the newbies that I meant she's near perfect and not much to write about. Tonight Melinda was lookin good. In Spanish if you look up the word calliente you will have two definitions, 1. hot and 2. Melinda.

Lakisha had fun, but we didn't. She did move a lot, but really do we want to see Lakisha move? My advice to her would be: " Honey keep singing, you are the best, just not tonight."

Chris doing Santana. I was worried about Chris tonight, but besides being cute and sexy this was his best performance of the year.

Haley doing Turn the Beat Around. OK Haley shaking your hot pants will save you this week. Teenage boys will be texting and beating something tonight.

Phil's rendition of Maria Maria was BORING BORING. If he survives this week, he needs to take a cue from Haley and start shedding clothes. Maybe singing Maria Maria in his jock strap would not be boring, OR maybe it would be.

Jordan - WOW The Rhythm Is Gonna Get You. Well it got me. She's definitely showing she will go far.

Blake "I Need To Know" Best of the night by far. Blake's got the opposite problem of Phil. Blake singing in a jock would definitely not be boring, but he doesn't need to stoop to that level. He can sing.

Sanjaya, the Indian doing Latin, well here goes... Actually I was quite surprised, nice performance. Not bad for a Federal Way boy.

Another week done, I now have to call my sponsor. It's part of my 12 Step Recovery effort.

This Week Name Predicated Finishes
1. Blake - 6
2. Melinda - 1
3. Chris - 9
4. Lakisha - 2
5. Jordan - 4
6. Sanjaya - 12
7. Haley - 8
8. Phil - 9

Gina - 5 voted off week 4
Chris Sligh - 7 voted off week 3
Stephanie - 3 voted off week 2
Brandon - 11 voted off week 1

Crying, Hair and BOOBS

My fan, I wish I could put an 's' on the end of that, but I truthfully can't. Anyway my fan pointed out that I'm always late on reporting the big story. First I missed the crying girl, then I missed Sanjaya's hair. I will try to do better. I think the big story this week is the boobs. I will get back to the boobs in a minute. First the performances.

Blake started the show and showed that maybe the boys do have a chance. I've heard this song in a karoke bar, sang by a slightly drunk former cousin in law, but to be truthful Blake did a better job.

OK, Phil... I've said this every year and obviously the performers are not reading my blog. Pay attention readers, if you have any plans to be on IDOL, reread all my postings and follow my advice. When you sing a song, you are telling a story. And its your job to keep us interested. Phil got every note right, he has a good voice. But there was no emotion. It was BORING. Some people can tell a joke and its very funny. Someone else can tell the same joke and its not funny and very often folks don't get it. Sorry Phil I just don't get it.

Melinda's got rhythm. In fact there's not much ever to say about her. Hopefully she will be gone soon.

Chris had his best night ever. The outfit, the song and his showmanship moved him up a couple notches.

Jordan was just average tonight. She looked good and sounded good, but I wasn't very impressed.

Gina one of my favorites was kind of disappointing. She ended up telling the same joke that Phil did and I still don't get it.

Sanjaya, Sanjaya, Sanjaya, He looked better and sounded passable. I guess all the publicity, being lampooned on Saturday Night Live, being the butt of jokes on Letterman and Leno, and actually having a whole episode of Larry King Live devoted to him has not gone to his head. Whoever wins, Sanjaya will probably end up being the biggest star of them all.

Haley, and you thought I forgot all about the boobs. Her song "Ain't Misbehavin" was appropriate if not a lie. She must think the competition is getting hot because she's getting hot. I don't mean her singing ability. I mean her boobs hanging out, and her skirts getting shorter. Each week we are blessed with seeing a bit more. If she hangs on a couple more weeks, we may have to get the manual out for our TV's and figure out how to engage our V-Chips.

Lakisha, was more than stormy weather, She was a hurrican, a tornado and a tsunami. Very nice way to end the show.

I hope my fan is satisfied. I may not get the whiney kid, or the weird hairdo, but boobs hanging out gets my attention every time.

My favorites this week:
This weeks order and my choices at the beginning of the year.
1. Melinda 1
2. Lakisha 2
3. Chris 9
4. Blake 6
5. Jordan 4
6. Gina 5
7. Sanjaya 12
8. Phil 10
9. Haley 8

x. Chris Sligh 7 voted off week 3
x. Stephanie Edwards 3 voted off week 2
x. Brandon Rogers 11 voted off week 1
